Live Active El Paso gets kids ready for school with backpacks and supply drive
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Live Active El Paso gives away free backpacks and school supplies to prepare kids for the new school year.
The event kicked off with a 3K Walk/Run for families through Marty Robbins Park.
The backpack and supplies were available on a first come first serve basis to school-aged children who crossed the finish line.
"Backpacks school supplies, pencils stickers for us," said Christopher Villa, a giveaway participant.
"School supplies, yes. For those that need it, which is obviously a big help for the community during these times right now,' said Monica Villa, a giveaway participant.
Live Active El Paso wants to get kids excited for the new school year while promoting a healthy lifestyle.
The event kicked off with a 3k walk/run for families through Marty Robbins Park.
To receive a free backpack, visitors were tasked with walking or running around the park at least one time.
The backpack and supplies were available on a first come first serve basis to school-aged children who crossed the finish line.
"You know, as parents to get this kind of help. You know, it takes a lot of the financial strain off of you,' said Monica Villa.
500 backpacks were given to school-aged children in the community.
In addition, free haircut vouchers and hot dogs were also given.
I feel like it was just, like, good. Like there are kids who don't really, like, get off to be able to do all the stuff that we can and be privileged like us. And I feel like it was something good that they did today,' said Christopher Villa.
