Brother of victim in El Paso’s Upper Valley house party shooting speaks out

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Uriah Urias, pictured above, was one of the victims in a shooting that happened early Saturday, according to his family. Witnesses said the shooting happened outside of a house party on the 5800 block of Sixta Drive.

"He was shot in his left cheek, and it came out on the right side behind his ear, below his earlobe," said Urias' brother, who wanted to remain anonymous. "But when that happened it also destroyed one of his arteries, one of his major arteries that go to the brain."

Urias' brother also said his twin was trying to break up a fight when he was shot.

Urias was one of at least two victims in Saturday's shooting, according to police. ABC-7 has not been able to identify the other victim at this time.

Urias is currently in stable condition, according to his family.

The shooting is the latest in a string of incidents involving gun violence at house parties in El Paso.

"What I really want done is... that they find this guy," said Urias' brother. "Guns, honestly, in the house parties. Like, there's really no reason, man. Like, I don't see no purpose in it."

Trent Nelson -- who lives near where the shooting happened -- said the series of shootings is sad, but he doesn't think they'll stop anytime soon.

"I don't think you can do anything really, because you can't stop people from inviting people to their house. And you can't stop people from selling alcohol. And people are going to do dumb stuff. So really, nothing you can do. Just keep your family safe and keep yourself safe," said Nelson.

Urias' family set up a GoFundMe to help with his medical expenses. If you'd like to donate, click here.
