Road rage leads to gunshots being fired in El Paso, driver jailed for assault with deadly weapon

A case of road rage between two drivers ended in gunshots being fired with a bullet hitting a house, according to El Paso police.

The road rage incident began unfolding Tuesday in the 12200 block of Montana between 46-year-old Gabriel Correa, who was driving a Nissan Maxima, and 28-year-old Xavier Burnette, who was driving a Ford Fusion.

According to police, Burnette honked his car horn at Correa who was in front of him at a stoplight that had turned green.

The police report says a chase ensued with Correa following and firing gunshots at the Fusion. Both vehicles came to a stop in front of a marked police car that was the 4400 block of Rich Beam. Two officers at the scene placed Correa under arrest without incident.

Crimes Against Persons detectives responded to help investigate and discovered one of the rounds fired by Correa had struck a residence at the 13000 block of Jorge Grajeda. No injuries resulted from the gunfire.

Correa was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility on two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
