Arrest made in 1 of 2 recent stabbing attacks in El Paso
El Paso police on Friday afternoon announced an arrest in one of two recent stabbing attacks that occurred in busy nightlife areas.
22-year-old Ramon De la Luz was arrested about 12:30 p.m. by officers from EPPD’s Gang Unit, the U.S. Marshals Service, and SWAT. The arrest took place in the same neighborhood where the stabbing occurred the night before.
De la Luz is charged with attempted murder in an attack on 23-year-old Alan Guillermo Torres, whom police said was stabbed multiple times in an alley way at Oregon and Third streets about 6 p.m. Thursday.
Sgt. Enrique Carrillo said De la Luz stabbed Torres in retaliation for losing a fight to him earlier in the day.
De La Luz was being held in the El Paso County Detention Facility on $100,000 bond, while Torres remained hospitalized Friday with what police are now calling life-threatening injuries.
There was still no word of any arrests Friday in this week’s other stabbing attack.
63-year-old Chester Charles Woodward was stabbed multiple times at a Sun Metro stop in the city’s Cincinnati Entertainment District on Wednesday night. Woodward, a local musician and neighborhood fixture, died of his injuries at the hospital the next day.
