Convicted El Paso killer now faces charges in second slaying in Florida
Authorities on Monday filed new charges against a convicted El Paso murderer they believe also killed a Florida woman in 2004.
Terry McDonald has been a suspect in Mary Mount’s death since she was killed.
Mount was last seen on Jan. 4, 2004 with McDonald. Her body was found buried in the desert near Sierra Blanca in Hudspeth County in October 2005.
McDonald was sentenced to life in prison after he was found guilty in 2008 of strangling a man in El Paso.
During the sentencing phase of that trial, two crime scene technicians from Florida testified about McDonald’s possible involved in Mount’s death.
El Paso police officers testified McDonald led them to Mount’s body.
On Monday, prosecutors in Florida said “new evidence” allowed them to officially file a charge connecting McDonald to Mount’s killing.
McDonald is now facing a second-degree murder charge there.
