Violent weekend in Juarez sets new record with over 20 killings in roughly 40 hours
Juarez set a new homicide record over the weekend with more than 20 killings in a roughly 40-hour period, the state attorney general’s office told Mexican media outlets on Sunday.
El Diario reported that among the victims were a child whose body was discovered hours after the murder of his father, and four men gunned down while having dinner at a south Juarez seafood restaurant in what the newspaper described as an “execution.”
The homicides, according to El Mexicano , also involved cases of torture killings as well as a senior citizen who was robbed and then killed at his home.
Other weekend murders included a man whose body was found wrapped in plastic and stuffed in a trash can outside a bar. That homicide was believed to be tied to a drug gang.
And what was apparently murder number 21 was recorded Sunday morning when another body was found in a trash can in a vacant lot in southeast Juarez, this one wrapped in a blanket.
There was no word of arrests so far in any of the weekend killings.
