SWAT standoff in northeast El Paso ends as suspicious man turns gun on self
EL PASO, Texas -- A standoff Friday evening between police and a suspicious armed man in northeast El Paso ended with the gunman suffering a "self-inflicted" gunshot wound, authorities said.
A police spokesperson did not immediately know the condition of the man.
A SWAT team had responded around 5:30 p.m. to the 5700 block of Arrowhead Drive on a report of a man "barricaded with a gun."
Police didn't immediately indicate what led up to the standoff that ended in the yard outside a home. But eyewitnesses in the neighborhood said it started when police arrived at a nearby convenience store to check out a suspicious man who had a gun.
