Las Cruces man convicted of killing teen girlfriend out on parole
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- A Las Cruces man responsible for the murder of his girlfriend when they were both teens is out of prison on parole after serving just half of his sentence.
That information came from the family of victim Ashley Wax, who was 15 when she was killed in 2005.
David Garcia admitted to shooting and killing Wax, and was sentenced to nearly 28 years in prison.
According to the Wax family, they received a text Wednesday notifying them that he was released on parole.
The 15th anniversary of their daughter's death was back in February, and a vigil held in honor of her life drew a large outpouring from the Las Cruces community.
