Las Cruces man sought in murder of his own brother
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- A Las Cruces man was being sought by police Wednesday on a murder charge for allegedly gunning down his own brother nearly a week ago.
Authorities were seeking the public's help to find 30-year-old Jaime Talamantes, but a police spokesman cautioned that he "is believed to be armed and should be considered dangerous."
Investigators said Talamantes fled last Friday from the 500 block of Mulberry Avenue where officers found his brother, 31-year-old Juni Talamantes, suffering from at least one gunshot wound; he died a short time later at Mountainview Regional Medical Center.
Jaime Talamantes is described by authorities as 5'11" and weighing about 190 pounds with brown hair and eyes. Anyone who knows his whereabouts was asked by police to call 9-1-1 immediately.
Anonymous tips were also being accepted on the Las Cruces Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-222-8477.
According to newspaper archives, Jaime Talamantes was granted bond earlier this year while awaiting trial on charges of aggravated assault and false imprisonment. He allegedly held his live-in girlfriend at gunpoint against her will, repeatedly threatening her.
