Man arrested for murder in central El Paso fatal stabbing
UPDATE, March 2: Detectives announced Tuesday the arrest of 20–year-old Ivan Gabaldon for the murder of 63–year-old Juan Garcia Flores last month in a central El Paso business district.
Investigators said they determined that "both men walked into the building (at 1710 Texas) together and after an encounter there, Gabaldon stabbed Flores."
Police said Gabaldon was booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility over the weekend on $1 million bond on the murder charge.
UPDATE, Feb. 24: Police on Tuesday said the body of a murder victim discovered in central El Paso the prior day was that of a man, but they were still working on confirmation of his identity.
Detectives also said no arrests had yet been made for the slaying.
ORGINAL REPORT, Feb. 23: EL PASO, Texas -- Police found a body Tuesday morning in central El Paso and labeled the death a case of "murder."
Police said officers doing a welfare check made the discovery in the 1700 block of Texas, in a business section near downtown, about 8 a.m.
A police mobile command post was on scene and Crimes Against Persons detectives were examining the area for evidence; the entire street was shut down.
Police didn't identify the victim nor indicate of any arrests had been made.
No further details were immediately available.
