Lower Valley grocery store raided by police in ongoing probe
EL PASO, Texas -- A small corner grocery store in El Paso's Lower Valley was raided by police Saturday as part of an investigation involving local, state and federal authorities.
The police activity targeted Mandi's Groceries, located at 606 Mauer Road and Lilac Drive, but officials were mum on the reason for the raid.
The Texas Department of Public Safety, which appeared to be the lead agency, confirmed an investigation involving multiple law enforcement entities - but it declined to comment further citing the ongoing nature of the probe. DPS troopers wouldn't indicate if search warrants had been executed - or what authorities were looking for when they entered the store on Saturday.
Law enforcement scanner traffic indicated El Paso police and U.S. Border Patrol agents also participated in the raid. Neither entity responded to requests for information, but Border Patrol's involvement would suggest the investigation involves immigration-related matters, at least in part.
The grocery store appeared to be closed following the police action there and the business owners couldn't be reached for comment.
