Boy arrested in Horizon City shooting that killed 1, hurt 2
UPDATE, June 17: HORIZON CITY, Texas -- El Paso County Sheriff's deputies have arrested a boy on charges stemming from a Horizon City shooting last weekend that has left one person dead and two others wounded.
The juvenile taken into custody, whose age was not given, is being charged with attempted murder and aggravated assault, the Sheriff's Office said in a statement issued Thursday evening.
It indicated that additional charges were anticipated in connection with the shooting, which happened in the 300 block of Canyon Vista Drive and was recorded on cell phone video. (You can view it in the video player at the top of this article.)
Deputies on Thursday identified the man who died as 18-year-old Samuel Vasquez Jr.; they also said another 18-year-old man and a 16-year-old boy were injured in that shooting.
ORIGINAL REPORT, June 14: HORIZON CITY, Texas -- El Paso County Sheriff's deputies have joined local police in investigating a weekend shooting in a Horizon City neighborhood that was caught on video.
Authorities said they responded to a shots fired call about 1:45 a.m. Sunday in the 300 block of Canyon Vista Drive in Horizon City. An ABC-7 crew spotted at least one bullet hole in the window of a home at that location later in the day.
Officials offered no other details surrounding the shooting and didn't indicate whether there were any injuries or arrests.
However, Fit Fam El Paso posted video to social media where you can see and hear the gunfire (you can watch the video at the top of this article) and it said multiple teens were seriously hurt; the shooting reportedly occurred during a graduation party.
The Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit was taking the lead in the investigation, which authorities described as active and ongoing; that unit typically only handles high-profile cases.
