East El Paso man didn’t die from being assaulted; death not a homicide
UPDATE #2, Aug. 30: The El Paso County Medical Examiner has determined that a man's death following a weekend assault in east El Paso isn't a homicide after all, authorities said Monday afternoon.
They indicated that the 24-year-old victim didn't die as a result of injuries he suffered in the assault, however officials didn't say what his actual cause of death was determined to be.
"The Medical Examiner has determined the injuries sustained by the deceased were not fatal and his death was not the result of a homicide," Sgt. Enrique Carillo, a police spokesman, said in a statement.
UPDATE #1, Aug. 30: An east El Paso assault victim has died from his injuries, police said Monday morning.
Detectives indicated his death was being treated as a homicide, but provided no further details.
Officials said they anticipated releasing more information about the investigation later Monday.
The victim was attacked in the 12000 block of Amstater Circle early Sunday morning.
ORIGINAL REPORT, Aug. 29: EL PASO, Texas -- The victim of an early Sunday morning assault in east El Paso was clinging to life at a local hospital, police said.
The incident, which happened in the 12000 block of Amstater Circle, was reported by police just before 4 a.m.
Authorities said the victim was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries, but didn't elaborate further.
The circumstances surrounding the assault were unknown and police didn't indicate whether any arrests in the case had occurred.
No further details were immediately available.
