La Union man arrested for month-old murder at south-central El Paso bar
UPDATE, Nov. 15: A month after a deadly shooting at a south-central El Paso bar, police on Tuesday announced the arrest of a southern New Mexico man on a murder charge.
Daniel Torres, 39, of La Union, was arrested by federal marshals and extradited from Dona Ana County to El Paso.
Authorities contend Torres shot 28-year-old Alfredo Morales of east El Paso multiple times, killing him. Torres also allegedly shot 36-year-old Jorge J. Garcia Reyes of northeast El Paso once in the chest, seriously injuring him.
Those shootings stemmed from a fight that took place on Oct. 15 at Cazadores Bar in the 3500 block of Durazno, according to investigators.
UPDATE, Oct. 23: The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission on Thursday said it was extending the suspension of a south-central El Paso bar's liquor license following a deadly shooting earlier this month.
The alcohol permit for Cantina Cazadores at 3530 Durzano Avenue will remain under suspension for another 30 days, the TABC said in a statement. It comes as a previous 7-day license suspension for the bar was set to expire.
"The Alcoholic Beverage Code authorizes TABC to suspend a business’ liquor license or permit for up to 90 days if it’s believed that continued operation of the business could prove a continuing threat to public safety," the statement said in explaining the reason behind extending the license suspension.
The El Paso police continue to investigate the Oct. 15 shooting the left one man dead and another wounded.
UPDATE, Oct. 15: EL PASO, Texas – The Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, at the request of El Paso police, announced Friday evening that it had suspended the liquor license of a south-central El Paso-area bar where a deadly shooting took place earlier in the day.
In a statement, TABC said Cantina Cazadores at 3530 Durzano was notified of a 7-day license suspension which runs through Oct. 23.
EPPD said its criminal investigation into the shooting early Friday, in which one man was killed and another seriously injured, remained ongoing. Meantime, the TABC said it was launching a separate probe into the bar's business policies and practices.
A TABC spokesman said if Cantina Cazadores is found to have "contributed to the shooting," it could face a more severe license suspension as well as penalty fines.
ORIGINAL REPORT, Oct. 15: EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso Police Department said one man was shot and killed, and another was injured at south-central El Paso bar during a fight early Friday morning.
It happened at Cazadores Cantina near the intersection of Durazno and N. Copia streets about 12:20 a.m.; when an ABC-7 crew arrived, detectives had taped off the bar and were investigating the scene.
Police said the victim who died was a man in his late 20s, possibly early 30s. The victim who was taken to the hospital was a man in his mid-30s and his condition was unknown at this time, according to police.
ABC-7 asked a police spokesman if any arrests had been made.
"No, at this time, like I said this investigation is ongoing and I don't have that information as far if we have other people that are outstanding," Officer Adrian Cisneros replied.
