Suspect in early morning stand-off with law enforcement has died, police say

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The suspect involved in an hours long stand-off with local law enforcement has died.

According to police, they were assisting Texas State Troopers at the Speedway located at intersection of Doniphan Dr. and Mesa St.

When our ABC-7 crews arrived, multiple law enforcement agencies were at the scene.

Officials confirmed that chemical agents were deployed by SWAT officers to get the suspect to come out of the gas station.

The suspect then proceeded to make his way out of the business and had his gun pointed at officers.

Shots were then fired by responding officers.

The man was shot and CPR was performed on him at the scene.

He was transported to a local hospital but died from his injuries, according to police officials.

Three other people are currently in Homeland Security custody.

We are working to find out if this was a possible human smuggling incident.

Law enforcement is encouraging the public to stay away from the area as their investigation continues.

A spokesperson with Texas DPS said Texas Rangers are now investigating.
