LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- Witnesses and neighbors spoke to ABC-7 about a shooting that happened at a house party late Saturday night.

Officials with the Las Cruces Police Department said at least six people were injured.

The shooting happened near the intersection of Dyer and Missouri Ave around 11:30 p.m.

One witness told ABC-7, everything was calm, and all of a sudden they heard bullets zipping past their heads.

"My first thing was like, 'I got to take care of (his girlfriend and little brother).' And I got both of them, and I just put my hands around them, and I told them, 'Lay down! Lay down!' And then, within like a minute or two -- I mean, it felt like forever, but this was within a matter of seconds -- I told them, 'We've got to jump the back fence, I don't care, we've got to go," said the witness, who did not want to be identified. "I'm supposed to be taking care of them, and without a gun or anything like that, I have nothing to take care of them with, besides my hands. And that's not going to make a difference if they have a gun."

That same witness showed ABC-7 his truck, which was riddled with bullet holes as a result of the shooting. We asked him how he felt about the damages.

"I don't even care. I mean, honestly, the good thing is that we're fine," he said.

Melissa Kearns told ABC-7, she lives about a block away from where the shooting happened, and heard the gunshots from her home. She said at first, she thought they were fireworks, because she is not used to the sound of a firearm being shot.

"It's a pretty quiet neighborhood, so this is... kind of shocking for this area," said Kearns.

"You guys have to be vigilant about your surroundings, which is unfortunate. You'd like to think you can go and enjoy a party but, I guess you have to be careful of your surroundings, and I guess, who's there."

LCPD confirmed one person is in critical condition, and there are no suspects at this time. ABC-7 has not been able to confirm the conditions of the other victims.
