Chihuahua man charged with human smuggling after fatal crash in East El Paso
Update (July 9, 2024): A Texas DPS spokesperson says the pursuit started near Bassett Mall after troopers determined the car was involved in human smuggling.
The car sped off and crashed into a truck at the intersection of Gateway West Boulevard and Airway Boulevard. The truck then crashed into another car. The driver and passenger of the truck were rushed to the hospital.
Officials identified the driver of the car chased by troopers as 22-year-old Chihuahua resident Eduardo Gonzalez Garcia. He and his passengers were taken to the hospital. Four of the passengers were later determined to have entered the U.S. illegally and were turned over to Border Patrol custody. One of them died.
Officials charged Garcia with a felony charge of human smuggling causing death.
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- DPS Troopers and El Paso Fire crews were spotted at the scene of a serious crash on Airway in East El Paso.
First responders confirm they rushed three people to the hospital, one with serious injuries.
The crash happened on Airway near the intersection with Gateway West Tuesday afternoon.
Airway is currently shutdown. ABC-7 will provide updates as they become available.
