"A school staff member had safely used a nearby fire extinguisher which kept the fire from growing and allowed crews to quickly extinguish the remaining fire and ventilate the building," a spokesperson for LCFD said. "A school event was occurring at the time of the fire, however is not believed to have been connected to the fire. LCFD fire investigators believe a mechanical or electrical malfunction in the bathroom may have contributed to the ignition of the fire. Preliminary evidence indicates the fire was not intentionally ignited."

The cause of the fire remains under investigation, officials say.
