A police pursuit, fire, and loose donkey: Busy night in Las Cruces

Update: Officials now tell ABC-7 that deputies were responding to the fire when they noticed the allegedly drunk driver going through the area. The driver later crashed into a deputy's vehicle, injuring the deputy. Officials now say the driver is not connected to the fire.


Update: Las Cruces Fire officials say that crews arrived to the scene of the blaze this morning to find heavy fire coming from the commercial building.

"Firefighters were able to extinguish the fire within minutes and keep it from extending throughout the building," LCFD officials say. "There were no civilian or firefighter injuries."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.

Also spotted this morning near Main and Union, where the pursuit ended, an ABC-7 viewer saw two farm animals, including one donkey, roaming the streets.

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico (KVIA) -- One person has been arrested after allegedly crashing a vehicle 3 times and starting a fire in a barber shop, according to the Doña Ana county Sheriff’s office.

The sheriffs office says that the suspect allegedly crashed into a Milo's Barber Shop then started a fire before fleeing the scene.

Officials say the second crash happened at S Main St & Bell Ave.

Then the suspect allegedly crashed a third time, hitting a sheriffs unit in the same area.

The sheriffs office says one deputy did get a minor injury from the crash.

The suspect was arrested and the scene is still currently active, according to the sheriffs office.

An investigation is ongoing.
