El Paso native Ashley Alvidrez wins Miss Mexico 2019

El Paso native and Horizon High School graduate Ashley Alvdrez was crowned the new Miss Mexico over the weekend, a Clint Independent School District official tweeted.

The 20-year-old Alvdrez, who was Miss Chihuahua, was selected from 32 candidates from all over Mexico who were vying for the title. She is the second Chihuahuan to win the national title in recent years, Mexican media outlets reported.

Alvdrez, a naturalized Mexican and aspiring model who attended El Paso Community College, was crowned by outgoing Miss Mexico Vanessa Ponce in Mexico City on Friday night in Mexico City, according to the Miss Mexico Organization.

As Miss Mexico 2019, Alvdrez will now compete representing Mexico in the upcoming compete in Miss World 2019 pageant to be held in December in the United Kingdom.

In an interview with El Diario, Alvdrez said that she hopes her beauty pageant wins can serve inspire other young women by proving you can work to attain your dreams.
