Border Patrol rescues woman from El Paso canal moments after arresting alleged rapist
EL PASO, Texas -- U.S. Border Patrol agents arrested an alleged rapist and rescued a woman from a canal during simultaneous operations early Wednesday morning.
Shortly after midnight Wednesday, Border Patrol agents assigned to the El Paso station observed four people making what they described as an illegal entry into the U.S. near Modesto Gomez Park in South-Central El Paso.
The agents were able to quickly locate the people and arrested them.
During a criminal records check, it was determined that 24-year-old Clemente Perez-Jimon was charged earlier this year in Oklahoma with a strong-arm rape. Perez-Jimon has been identified as a Guatemalan citizen.
He remains in custody pending criminal prosecution.
At the same time, other agents arrived at the same entry location and found a woman struggling to stay afloat in the American Canal.
Agents used a rescue rope to pull the woman from the canal.
El Paso Fire personnel arrived on scene and evaluated the woman. She was described as being in “good condition,” but was taken to a local hospital as a precautionary measure.
The Border Patrol identified the woman as being a Guatemalan national.
