Car runs into El Paso barber shop that provides sensory friendly haircuts

EL PASO, Texas ( KVIA)-- Returning to work the day after the long Labor day weekend was hard for many people, but for Barber Edgar "Scissorhands" Guerrero, that day was more hectic than normal. Guerrero returned to work to find an SUV in the waiting room for his barbershop.

No one was hurt but now the barbershop is in need of some repairs. The crash was posted on social media which shined light on the business and now El Pasoans are becoming more familiar with Guerrero and his target clientele. Guerrero specializes in working with people who have sensory issues. Guerrero services clients as young as 3 months to his oldest client who is 98 years old.

Guerrero says he learned that people with sensory issues need to be approached differently after finding out his nephew was autistic. Guerrero said he did a lot of research and joined different forums to learn more about the disorder.

"My machine is real quiet. I use scissors a lot. I try to make them feel comfortable, like they're at home not at a barber shop. I let them run around. I'll chase them around the barber shop. Whatever it takes for them to get a nice haircut," Guerrero said.

Guerrero wants everyone to know he appreciates all the support from community as he works to rebuild the barbershop. He says once everything is fixed he will have a re-grand opening and everyone is invited.

If you are interested in helping Guerrero you can visit The Gentlemen's Barbershop by Bissuett for a haircut. They are located 14701 Marvin Ln, El Paso, TX 79938. Hours of operation are Monday through Saturday 9am until 7pm and every other Sunday 9am until 4pm. You can also make a donation through their GoFundMe.
