Arrest made in killing of Socorro High football player

UPDATE, Jan. 26: El Paso County Sheriff's deputies confirmed Sunday that a 16-year-old was taken into custody and charged with the murder of 15-year-old Jesus Estrada.

The arrest happened around 10 a.m. Saturday. The teenager's identity has not been revealed and no further details were immediately available.

Original report from Jan. 22: SOCORRO, Texas -- Officers responding to a gunshots fired call found a teenager shot dead Wednesday night alongside a Socorro road in what authorities said was a drive-by shooting.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. in the 11500 block of Villa Del Mar.

Family members identified the shooting victim to ABC-7 on Thursday as 15-year-old Jesus Estrada, a sophomore at Socorro High School who played on the football team.

No arrests have been made in the slaying, which was being investigated by the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office major crimes unit and Socorro police.
