Man seriously injured in downtown El Paso bar assault

(Editor's note: An initial version of this article reported that a shooting had occurred. Authorities have now clarified that this incident turned out to be an assault and not a shooting.)

EL PASO, Texas -- A man was seriously injured late Saturday night in an assault at a downtown El Paso bar.

The incident happened about 11:45 p.m. in the 100 block of Caldwell Street at the Later Later bar.

Fire officials said the victim was taken to a local hospital in serious condition.

Police on Sunday offered no further details about the assault nor did they indicate if any arrests had been made.
