‘Graduation tickets not for sale’: EPISD issues warning about graduation ticket scam
EL PASO, Texas -- Parents, family and friends of 2020 graduates are being warned about scams that claim to have tickets for sale for the El Paso Independent School District’s outdoor graduation ceremonies.
District officials warn that tickets for graduation ceremonies scheduled for June 15 to 20 are not for sale.
Because of the Covid-19 pandemic, EPSID is moving forward with graduation plans but are limiting each graduate to having two guests in attendance.
The district's high schools began distributing tickets to qualified students this week.
The district warns that contraband tickets will not be honored at graduation sites. Official district graduation tickets have a special watermark that can be identified at the gate.
By limiting guests, that will allow district officials to allow for proper social distancing.
Honoring contraband tickets would make social distancing “difficult or impossible,” according to a news release sent out by the district Tuesday.
Other guidelines include:
*All attendees, including graduates, must wear face masks.
*Guests in the stands, who are not members of the same household, must sit six feet apart from other guests.
*Doors to the stadium will open two hours before the ceremonies to give people plenty of time to comply with rules and guidelines.
*No noisemakers, confetti, umbrellas or watercoolers will be allowed. Guests may bring a bottle of water and stadium seats.
*Guests will leave on a staggered basis. Instructions on release by sections will be announced over the public-address speakers.
*Graduates and guests are asked not to linger on the premises and to vacate the venue promptly at the end of the ceremony.
