EL PASO, Texas - With the help of her mom, one El Paso toddler has read more than 1,000 books before kindergarten. Natasha Walker is just three years old, yet has met the enormous number of reading 1,000 books before kinder, and she's way ahead of schedule (reference paragraph 3 for the book reading schedule)! This remarkable accomplishment was achieved through the Little Stars Reading Program, which encourages families to read to and with their children to improve early literacy.

According to an Iris Reading article, the average female reads about 735 books in a lifetime, and for males, that total is 684 books read in a lifetime. Already, little Natasha is hundreds of books ahead of those lifetime numbers.

The Little Stars Reading Program maps out the way a certain amount books should be read to their children from the time they are born to the age of 4 to reach the milestone. A newborn should be read four books per week. A one-year-old should read five books a week, 2-year-olds get seven books per week, 3-year-olds get ten a week, and 4-year-olds should read 20 books per week to accomplish the task. Of course, parents are heavily involved with the reading schedule seeing as newborns can't hold a book or talk!

ABC-7 wants to congratulate young Natasha and her family for working with their daughter to become such an avid reader at such a young age. Great job!
