EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Khalid is teaming up with the El Paso Public Libraries to host a Father's Day essay contest. The Great Khalid Foundation aims to honor fathers, just as they celebrated mothers with a similar essay contest this Mother's Day.

Students ages 5 to 18 can submit an original essay. The essays should be fewer than two pages, explaining "I love my dad because..." and be in either English or Spanish. Organizers say essays can also be about grandfathers, uncles, older brothers, or others with a fatherly influence.

“Fathers and father figures play an important role in the lives of our children,” said El Paso Public Libraries Director Norma Martinez. “We’re thrilled to once again partner with the Great Khalid Foundation to help honor fathers on their very special day.”

It is free to enter. The deadline to enter is 6 p.m. June 9, 2023.

Winners will receive a Father's Day gift to give to their dad.
