Runaway truck at El Paso intersection smashes into cars, almost hits buildings
EL PASO, Texas -- An empty dump truck barreled through a red light at the intersection of Mesa Street and Thunderbird Drive on Friday, smashing into several cars and narrowly missing several businesses in its path.
The accident was reported just after 1 p.m. and witnesses said the truck appeared to have had a brake failure as it traveled down Thunderbird.
After plowing through the intersection, the runaway truck sped into a shopping center parking lot as the driver turned the giant truck into a full-size pickup truck and managed to slow it down.
Incredibly, fire officials said only one person went to the hospital with minor injuries.
