El Paso Police officer discharges firearm after red light violation stop turns into foot chase

EL PASO, Texas-- El Paso Police say that an officer from the Central Regional Command discharged her firearm Tuesday night during an incident that started with a traffic violation.

According to reports, officers attempted to stop a 2006 Hummer for a red light violation. The driver, Adrian Valenzuela, 28, jumped out of the vehicle and ran from the scene with one of the officers of the two officer patrol unit chasing him.

The passenger, an unidentified male, immediately jumped onto the Hummer’s driver’s seat of the still moving vehicle and fled. At that time, the officer remaining at the scene discharged her firearm.

Valenzuela was arrested after a brief foot chase and found in possession of 183 grams of methamphetamine.

Officer’s located the abandoned Hummer, reported stolen out of Odessa, a short distance from the scene but the male passenger has not been found.

Valenzuela is facing a variety of charges. Details on those charges along with his bond amount and booking photo have not yet been released by police.
