EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The El Paso Department of Public Health reported two new coronavirus deaths, and 30 new cases Monday morning.

The death toll now stands at 80 in El Paso County.

“Today is another somber day for our community, we send our thoughts and prayers to the families of these two individuals,” El Paso's Health Authority Dr. Hector Ocaranza said. “We know that for young adults, Covid-19 might be a mild disease, but the virus can be transmitted to a vulnerable loved one that may suffer severe complications, including death, from the disease.”

The latest victims were identified as a man in his 50s and a woman in her 90s. The health department stated both had underlying health issues.

There have now been 2,794 cases since the pandemic reached El Paso. Of those, 1,093 are active. More than 1,600 El Pasoans have recovered.

Hospitalizations have dropped from 103 to 99. There are now 56 patients in the intensive care unit and 29 are on ventilators.
