Police say it appears El Paso City Hall protest cancelled
UPDATE: An El Paso police spokesman told the media Tuesday morning, "All indications are the protest downtown this morning has been cancelled."
ORIGINAL REPORT: EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso Mayor Dee Margo said the city was bracing for a potential protest at City Hall on Tuesday in honor of George Floyd, the handcuffed black man who died in Minneapolis police custody in what's been ruled a homicide.
Word of the protest, circulating on social media, indicates demonstrators may start gathering as of 10 a.m.
It would be the second Floyd protest within a few days in El Paso. A protest at El Paso police headquarters on Sunday that moved to Memorial Park resulted in clashes between demonstrators and police.
Authorities used tear gas to disperse protesters in the park. Officials indicated two officers were injured when rocks and bottles were thrown at them; police also said they made three arrests over the course of that protest.
