Some El Paso city, county facilities closed Friday for Juneteenth
EL PASO, Texas — All city of El Paso administrative offices are closed on Friday in observance of Juneteenth.
While the official holiday is June 19, which is Saturday, the city will observe it for the first time Friday. A complete list of city services and facilities impacted by the Juneteenth holiday is available online at elpasotexas.gov.
Meantime, El Paso County Parks & Recreation administrative offices are also closed on Friday in observance of Juneteeth. The offices will reopen at 8 a.m. on Monday by appointment.
But Ascarate Golf Course along with all county pools and parks remain open for the day. More information can be found online by visiting epcountyparks.com.
Juneteenth— which was signed into law as a national holiday by President Joe Biden on Thursday after being widely approved by Congress — celebrates the day that Texas slaves learned of their freedom, two and a half years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed by President Abraham Lincoln in 1863.
