MGN

EL PASO, Texas - A passenger died after a fiery crash into a light pole at the Montwood and Zaragoza intersection in east El Paso.

Police say it happened Saturday just after 12:30 a.m.

Special Traffic Investigators say the driver, 23-year-old Kederick Renard Brooks Jr. of northeast El Paso was driving a Nissan Altima northbound on Zaragoza and approaching the curved intersection of Montwood at a high rate of speed.

Police say Brooks failed to negotiate the turn and crashed into a light pole and the car caught fire.

Brooks and his passenger were inside; they were pulled out by the El Paso Fire Department and transported to the hospital for treatment.

The passenger, who remains unidentified, died from his injuries.

STI continues with their investigation, but say speed contributed to the crash.
