KFOX news anchor jailed on criminal mischief charge, accused of driving Jeep on home lawn, damaging staircase
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) - An El Paso news anchor turned herself in to authorities two years after she was accused of driving her Jeep onto a lawn and damaging a concrete staircase, public records show.
The delay in Erika Castillo's jailing today and the June 2021 date of occurrence remains unclear but records say she was caught on video at the home on the 3900 block of Las Vegas. She was released shortly after being booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility.
Castillo is identified as "Erika S. Bryan" on the documents. She is alleged to have yelled at a neighbor saying that the owner of the home was stealing her husband's money.
The neighbor told the owner what he saw and provided information to police. The homeowner told police Castillo made a long crack on one of the stair case.
The record says Castillo texted the homeowner: "I need our title that you owe us ASAP and that's why I was there and I need them ASAP" and "we will get the step repaired. Sorry but I told you last week I park as close as possible because it is too steep and I was in a hurry."
The homeowner was able to describe Castillo and her vehicle. Police discovered the registered owner is Shawn P. Bryan, Castillo's husband, and the witness's description matched her.
On July 15, 2021 the victim told police he wanted to press charges and provided estimates with costs of $1,000 and $975 for repairs of the damage.
ABC-7 reached out to KFOX management and received this statement: "We are aware of the situation and are assessing the matter internally. We do not have any further comment at this time.”
