Newly remodeled Walmart hosts ribbon-cutting ceremony
EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- The Walmart Neighborhood Market located at 10840 Martin Luther King Jr Blvd re-opened today. The store underwent a 16 week intensive remodel. Store manager Rachel Granados says the store opened in June of 2015 and was due for an upgrade.
After the ribbon cutting ceremony customers were able to enter the store and receive treats from various vendors. As they walked through the doors they were able to view the El Paso themed mural honoring Fort Bliss. The mural was designed and illustrated by artist Thomas Futyna and is part of Walmart's Community Mural Program.
The celebration included karaoke from employees and a performance from a mariachi band. While everyone was celebrating the new features, Ana Viesca was celebrating her retirement. Viesca has been working for the Walmart corporation for 37 years.
Viesca says she is grateful for her time at Walmart because she learned so much. She started at the location on Dyer St. First Viesca worked in receiving, she moved through different departments before working in the accounting office, which is the department she retried from.
Through Viesca is retried she has no plans on slowing down. Viesca says she hopes to travel now that she has the time. Viesca said over the summer she plans to visit Dallas, Waco, Austin and Pittsburgh to name few cities.
Viesca had the honor of cutting the ribbon at the re-grand opening. This was special because Viesca was 1 or 7 employees to open the store back in 2015.
Some of the store upgrades are expanded online pickup and delivery section, expanded pharmacy with a consultation room, New fixtures, a Grab & Go section and an overall improvement to the store's layout.
During the remodel the store only close for a half a day to program the new systems. The store manager said sometimes it would be challenging because items were constantly being moved around, but that is a thing of the past. Granados says they are fully stocked and ready to continue business as usual.
