60+ mph winds topple through the Borderland: ABC-7 at 4

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- Wind gusts reaching nearly 70 miles per hour woke some Borderland residents in the middle of the night.

Some homes in Canutillo, Texas, near Country Club Road sustained severe damage. One West El Paso resident woke up to a tree weighing about three to four tons collapsed in his backyard. The fall also broke through a stone wall -- and his neighbor's roof.

"Probably going to cost me close to $20,000 with insurance," Michael Romero told ABC-7. "It's a lot of money; heck no, I was not expecting or ready for this."

The El Paso Fire Department said it had six weather-related calls Thursday. Three took place in West El Paso while the rest happened in East and Far East sides.

EPFD said three of the calls involved a fallen tree. It also responded to two utility or electrical incidents and one traffic hazard.
