Together La Union Fund established to help flood victims in southern New Mexico community
LAS CRUCES, New Mexico - The Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico has established the Together La Union Fund to help those affected by the severe flooding that struck the community just two weeks ago. The fund was created with the help of New Mexico Lt. Governor Howie Morales and local philanthropists.
All donations to the Together La Union Fund collected by the Community Foundation of Southern New Mexico will be used to provide assistance to La Union residents who have lost homes, businesses and possessions. And in just the first two weeks of the fund's existence, the response has been strong.
"We have about $8000," commented Community Foundation President & CEO Terra Winter, who appeared Thursday on ABC-7 at Four. "We're working with several families in La Union to see what their needs are. We also have four other non-profit partners that are doing work in that area."
Winter said one company has donated a double-wide mobile home and they are working with Dona Ana County Emergency Management to find a flood victim who would need it the most.
