El Paso teen graduates from UTEP

EPCC

EL PASO, Texas (KVIA) -- 19-year-old Andrea Hernandez will receive her Bachelor of Science in Nursing degree from UTEP this weekend.

She graduated from Americas High School's Trailblazers Early College High School in 2017.

Hernandez then spent four years at El Paso Community College, preparing to transfer to UTEP, which she did in 2021.

For the past two years, Hernandez has studied nursing at UTEP.

“The teachers at EPCC had higher expectations,” Hernandez said. “All Early college teachers were incredibly supportive and fostered student success.”

Hernandez says she loves how considerate nurses are, and that's what inspired her to join the profession. She already has a job at the Hospitals of Providence as a registered nurse in the progressive care specialty unit. Hernandez still needs to pass her NCLEX State Board of Nursing exam.
