UNM female athlete shot in leg at house party over the weekend
ALBUQUERQUE, New Mexico — The Albuquerque Journal reported that a female University of New Mexico athlete is recovering after being shot in the leg at a party in Albuquerque over the weekend.
The newspaper said she was with some other student athletes at a house party where another person was also shot in the ankle.
The Journal reported the party's attendance had not only other Lobo athletes, but also recruits visiting campus.
Albuquerque police said they were investigating and no further information was available.
UNM released a statement saying:
“We are aware of an incident that occurred on Saturday night involving some of our student-athletes. We are currently working through the proper channels to gather more information. We consider this matter very serious. As a department we are thankful that everyone is safe and that the situation as we understand it didn't escalate. We will reserve comment until a more appropriate time when we have more information."
