From the concert hall to the cul-de-sac: Las Cruces musicians offer curbside performances

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico - With the cancellation of all major Borderland symphony events, a group of local musicians wants to bring their music to your neighborhood.

"This has been a tough time for musicians," said Amalia Kelter Zeitlin, the executive director of Camera Del Sol. "So many of us are employed by one of the symphonies."

During a normal season, the Las Cruces violinist would normally be studying her repertoire for the Las Cruces Symphony Orchestra.

"For all of us who are employed by them, that could be hundreds to thousands of dollars lost," Kelter Zeitlini said.

Her ensemble, Camerata Del Sol, is offering twenty-minute long driveway and curbside performances throughout the pandemic.

The group charges $50 for one musician, $120 for four musicians and $170 for a featured soloist accompanied by a quartet. You can call 575-642-3727 or visit https://www.cameratadelsol.org/

The violinist told ABC-7 she is optimistic that the country will have a much greater appreciation for the arts when the pandemic is over.

"Music will definitely endure," said Kelter Zeitlin. "Not only that, but I feel like so much of the best music ever written was written during very difficult times."
