SANTA FE, New Mexico  — Health officials said Monday that New Mexico now has over 7,000 coronavirus cases.

State Department of Health officials reported 93 additional Covid-19 cases and three more deaths. That pushes the statewide totals to 7,026 cases and 320 deaths.

There were 16 additional cases reported in Doña Ana County on Monday, bringing the caseload to 423. However, there no new deaths occurring in the county, so that toll remained at just two.

There were a only pair of new cases reported Monday involving those being held in southern New Mexico's federally-run detention facilities, which had seen large outbreaks in recent weeks. There are now a total of 93 infections at the Otero County Prison and 92 at the Otero County ICE Processing Center, which have a combined tally of 185.

But there were no new cases reported among Otero County residents, so their case count stayed at 14. The two detention facilities, which sit on a complex adjacent to each other in Chaparral, are tracked separately from the county's residents. To date, there has been one death in Otero County.

Health officials said that one of the state's three deaths reported Monday was in McKinley County, with the other two happening in San Juan County. All three New Mexicans who died had underlying medical conditions.

McKinley County, San Juan County and Bernalillo County continue to be the top three counties in the state for virus cases. McKinley and San Juan are in the northwest corner of the state along the hard-hit Navajo Nation area, while Bernalillo encompasses the Albuquerque metro area and is the state's most populous county.

With the state now having more than 7,000 cases, officials have raised concerns about young people without symptoms potentially spreading the virus. Children and teenagers make up about 13% of the state’s positive cases, up from 7% a few weeks ago and about four times higher than the national average.

Below you can see county-by-county data for virus cases and deaths across New Mexico. The data comes from Johns Hopkins University, so the numbers may sometimes vary a bit from what's reported by the state health department.
