3rd virus deaths occur in Doña Ana County; inmate infections top 100 at Otero County Prison

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- A man in his 90s who died in a local hospital is the third confirmed coronavirus death in Doña Ana County, state health officials announced Friday.

The man, who suffered form underlying health conditions, was one of nine additional virus deaths across New Mexico as the state's death toll grew to 344.

Doña Ana County also recorded seven new cases, part of 133 additional infections in the state. New Mexico's virus cases to date reached 7,493.

There were four new cases reported in neighboring Otero County, taking its case count to 22. It has had two deaths during the pandemic.

Separately, there were also four new cases reported among inmates at the Otero County Prison Facility, bringing to 101 the number of infected inmates there. At the adjacent Otero County ICE Processing Center, the caseload held at 92.
