Stranded migrant on Mount Cristo Rey rescued, hospitalized

SUNLAND PARK, New Mexico -- Firefighters found and rescued a migrant who was stuck on Mount Cristo Rey Wednesday morning.

Sunland Park firefighters said they brought the stranded man off the mountain after a search operation that also involved Sunland Park Police and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The rescued migrant was taken by ambulance to a local hospital to be evaluated for injuries, fire officials said.

It wasn't clear exactly where on the mountain the man became stranded after crossing the U.S.-Mexico border.

Fire crews responded to the mountain around 8 a.m. and successfully completed the rescue mission about a half-hour later.
