Las Cruces’ popular Corner Deli closing its doors after 31 years

LAS CRUCES, New Mexico -- After decades in business, owners Cindy and Mark Stephens decided to close the doors Wednesday and say goodbye to their popular Las Cruces sandwich spot, Corner Deli.

The couple made the announcement in a social media post, saying that their “time has come to an end."

Mark Stephens told ABC-7 that at 63-years-old, it was finally time to retire from the business and focus on spending more time with his family.

After closing up for the last time on Wednesday, Stephens said they planned to go visit their daughter at Portales, New Mexico to watch her on the cheer team at Eastern New Mexico University.

Sad to see them go, the community showed up in huge numbers Wednesday for the last chance to get their sandwiches.

The line started at 7 a.m. and ran down the street as people waited until doors opened at 10 a.m. Those in line said the wait was long, but worth it.
