Student shot dead at Texas high school; alleged shooter arrested hours later
BELLAIRE, Texas — A male student was shot and killed Tuesday at a high school in east Texas and the alleged shooter was taken into custody about four hours later after a police search, local officials told ABC affiliate KTRK.
KTRK said the accused shooter was also a student at Bellaire High School, located in a suburb southwest of Houston, and was taken into custody about 8 p.m.
Emergency crews were seen performing CPR as the student was carried on a stretcher to an ambulance outside the school around 4 p.m. The student was transported to the hospital and later died.
There were conflicting reports about whether the shooting happened inside or outside the school.
School officials initially said classes were were officially cancelled for Wednesday in the wake of the shooting.
"The Houston Independent School District is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic death of one of our students. We offer our deepest sympathies to the student's family and friends," the district said in a statement.
