Missing hiker found dead in Franklin Mountains identified, removed from mountain

UPDATE (05/10): The Combined Search and Rescue Team has removed the body found near Ranger Peak in the Franklin Mountains.

El Paso police say the body was that of 46-year-old Jerred Erhorn Woods, a resident of Washington. According to investigators, Woods's daughter said her father went hiking and she had not heard from him since approximately 2 p.m. Saturday.

The body has been taken to the Medical Examiner's Office for further examination. No cause of death has been determined.

EL PASO, Texas – A search for a missing hiker in the Franklin Mountains has led to the discovery of the hiker's body. According to fire officials, the victim was male. The hiker's car was found at Ranger Peak.

The search has now turned into a recovery operation. Police will take over the investigation.

The person was reported missing Sunday.
