Firework sales begin today in Doña Ana County

DOÑA ANA COUNTY, New Mexico - Monday marks when vendors can start selling fireworks in Doña Ana County. Sales can continue through July 6, according to Kevin Hoban, Mesilla Valley fire chief.

According to the US Drought Monitor, as of June 16, Doña Ana County is under varying levels of intensity, from abnormally dry to exceptional drought.

Even with the dry conditions, Dona Ana County and multiple cities like Las Cruces banning certain types of aerial fireworks, places like Anthony and Mesilla still allow their sale.

On April 25, New Mexico Governor Michelle Lujan Grisham urged local restrictions on fireworks due to wildfires and drought conditions.

On June 14, Doña Ana County commissioners further limited the sale and use of fireworks.
