GECU bank robbery in east El Paso; search for suspect underway

UPDATE (2:44 p.m.): Lockouts at Eastwood High School, Eastwood Middle and Eastwood Knolls have been lifted.

Bloodhounds have been arriving at the Candlewood Ave. area just about a block above the bank in search of suspect.

UPDATE (1:59 pm): A suspect is still at large after robbing the GECU credit union on 10425 on Vist Del Sol at 11:15 this morning.

FBI released a description of the suspect who fled the scene on foot after firing inside the bank.

The male was described as 5' 11" to 6 feet tall. He was wearing khaki pants with a long sleeve khaki shirt. According to the FBI, he appeared to be wearing a ballistic vest of the same color.

His ethnicity is not known because he was wearing a face mask.

K9 units are in the area trying to locate the individual.

UPDATE (1:05 p.m.): Initial reports indicate the crime scene has expanded to neighboring buildings. Police are interviewing witnesses.

UPDATE (12:40 p.m.): A video posted on social media shows a pep rally at Eastwood High School interrupted due to a lockout.

UPDATE (12:00 p.m.): According to preliminary reports, the suspect shot at an ATM and into the bank. The suspect is described as a Hispanic male wearing a white shirt and black pants. Preliminary reports indicate the man changed clothes.

The FBI will provide a statement soon.

Search helicopters can be heard flying in the area.

This is a multi-agency response. Border Patrol, FBI and El Paso Police are responding.

EL PASO, Texas -- El Paso Police say shots were fired during a robbery at the GECU on 10425 Vista Del Sol. Police say no injuries were reported.

People are asked to stay clear of the area - especially pedestrian traffic. The suspect ran towards Yarbrough. Canines will likely be deployed, according to police.
