Hunger Action Month Campaign kicks off in the Borderland
EL PASO, Texas -- Times have been tough for thousands of El Pasoans. And it's something El Paso's only food bank takes to heart.
This September, you'll be able to help them continue their mission when you shop at your local Albertsons.
Employees and volunteers at El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank work to prepare and distribute food to feed thousands across the Borderland.
From kids at Borderland schools to packaging food for hundreds of refugees.
Since January, El Paso’s only food bank has served more than 150 thousand families.
“We often go through the summer months with very few donations and financial support," said El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank CEO Susan Goodell.
The need for food in our community is so great people line up starting at 4 am outside the food bank, and the long lines we saw during the pandemic are not a thing of the past. It continues to curve along the street, extending several blocks.
“I’ve never in the 22 years of work seen anything like this,” said Goodell.
From soaring prices to labor and food supply shortages — the food bank is no exception.
Goodell says it's been a challenge to keep up with demand.
“We are struggling to find the resources to pay for the staffing the fuel for the trucks, and to bring food for 48 states here in this country to bring food to El Paso,” said Goodell.
This September -- during hunger action month, you can make a difference.
“Every dollar that we receive is converted to this community, every dollar provides seven meals,” said Goodell.
When you shop at your local Albertsons, you can donate at the keypad when you pay at the register to help those in need.
But we'll also be giving back.
We're partnering with Albertsons for a surprise for shoppers at random as part of this year's Hunger Action Month Campaign.
