New omicron boosters now available at El Paso Covid-19 clinics
EL PASO, Texas -- Starting Tuesday, El Pasoans will be able to receive the newly approved Bivalent Covid-19 booster shots at any of the city's Covid-19 clinics.
The new booster shot is meant to target the omicron subvariant BA.5 as well as the original strain of Covid-19 is still around.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention recommends you wait two months since your last Covid-19 vaccine and at three months since your last Covid-19 infection.
Dr. Armando Meza with Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center of El Paso said El Pasoans should consider getting the shot especially if they've never received a booster shot before.
"Your immunity from Covid...may not last you for more than maybe two months or so. So if you got Covid, wait until you feel better, but (don't) wait too long before you get that booster dose."
Dr. Meza said you can get both the booster and the flu shot. It takes about two weeks for the new shot to take full effect.
The Pfizer bivalent vaccine is only authorized for people 12 years of age and older and Moderna bivalent vaccine is authorized for anyone 18 years of age and older.

The clinics are open Tuesday through Saturday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. No appointment is necessary, however you can still schedule one over at epcovidvaccine.com.
They're also available at CVS and Walgreens pharmacies.
